I hope the meeting went well and acording to planned... I also hope that Louis was able to answer some questions you had regarding UM and the local culture. I would like to ask all the newcomers to provide me with details of:
1. possible arrival dates
2. where you wish to stay once you arrive, prior to finding a permanent place (hotel, somebody's apt, etc)
3. place you would like to rent (studio, 1 bdrm, 2 bdrm, etc)
4. would you like to have housemates (American, Taiwanese, a newcomer you met during the gathering, etc)
5. your desired transportation mode (bike, car, metro, etc)

Please provide us with ur preferences in order to give us a headstart on planning. Thank you very much

Update
After talking to the new students, I realized that housing is the major concern... Here are a couple of guidelines:
1) UM does not provide housing for grad students (blows)
2) Let your transportation medium determine the location
3) Try to have an idea of how much you want to pay
4) Familiarize with how Miami is divided in terms of areas
5) Balance safety and cost
6) Search websites such as apartments.com, miami.forrent.com, or the school's off-campus housing to get an overall idea
7) No need to panic, plan everything accordingly and it will be fine
