Hello,

我是Peter. 今年秋季班要去念BME,MS
目前仍有許多問題不懂要請教各位學長姐 Razz

Smile

Hi Chia-yu, Thanks for the note!
Yes I know Peggy already.. well sort of, we have exchanged many emails lately after being introduced by a law professor.
You're right... I work for TVBS doing international news... that's my job. I'm surprised you guys remember me - I don't get on TV that much anymore. Wonder what the Google search turned up -- probably a bunch of old stories I did for the Hong Kong paper.
Look forward to meeting you all in Miami -- even though I'm not "Taiwanese" myself, I've lived in Taiwan a long, long time! PS - I noticed you just had an election for UMTSA -- wanna do a recount? haha -- just kidding, come on , Florida and Taiwan have both done a recount so I just couldn't resist asking .... We even had our own Taiwan version of Elian Gonzales too!
Should we bring a Tatung Rice Cooker with us?
- jason

Wow Jason, you worked for TVBS. Of course I saw you on TV before; you are kinda famous.Smile
I know TVBS is different from ERA, but do you know Patty Hou?? ha...I am one of her fans. Mr. Green

As to our election, actually we had a tie, but those two electees decided to negotiate themselves instead of recounting, ha.

As to the Rice cooker, we can buy that here but the price might be a little higher than in Taiwan. Thus, if you have lots of baggages, maybe you could save the space for other things.

Glad to have you here and look forward to meet you, too. Cool

Jason :
I am not sure a recount will be necessary, although it might make it more interesting, hehehe. I should also get a gun shot wound to make it more dramatic, right? hehehe So when are you planning to arrive in Miami? The basic rule of thumb is that you can get anything you want in Miami, including Tatung Rice Cooker, which is sorta refreshing, even though u won't find the same food... sadly!!! If you can, please reveal some of your ideas, including car purchasing, apartment preferences and all... thanks...

Dear Sleepy and Pedro,
I've heard firearms are readily available in the Miami area = but be careful arranging any shooting now!! haha
Did you see last month I published an op-ed in the miami herald comparing Taiwan and Florida - couldn't resist the opportunity!
We actually tried to interview Al Gore about the recount - but he refused to talk to us... too bad, flaky old Al knows a thing or two about counting.

I know Patty Hou, but not very well. She works for ERA and they are in the same bldg. as TVBS, so sometimes I bump into her in the elevator. My wife also really likes her. But I haven't had the chance to work with her, as she came to ERA about the time when I took one year off from work to study in Hong Kong. Also TVBS and ERA are no longer cooperating anymore - I think she was with CTN (now CTI-TV) before that. I will say "hi" for you if I see her before leaving.

As for our plans, we will probably get to Miami in mid-July, when we will try to buy a small townhouse to live in for the next 3 years - I assume Kendall is the only place we can afford on our budget. It's terrible because I've been living so long in Taiwan that I don't have any "credit history" in the US - so getting a mortgage and student loan is a pain in the neck.

I am sorry I didn't know and didn't see the op-ed on miami herald by you. Btw, I guess Al doesn't want to think about it and doesn't want anyone to remind him that thing so that he refused to have an interview with you. Laughing

Wow again, you know Patty Hou Crying or Very sad . Envy you so much, ha.
I know that she was reporting English news in CTN before. That's few months before I left for Miami and I wanted to do something to practice my English and I found out CTN had English news. That's when and how I knew her and I have been her fan since then Embarassed . However, she became so famous after showing up in Tao's entertainment/showbiz news. Fat chance I would have the chance to know her..Razz Anyways, thanks for saying hi for me if you would meet her before leaving.

As to housing, I live in Kendall and I think it's a good place to live. Wish you could find the house you like and with reasonable price very soon Very Happy If you have questions or need any help, just let us know. I believe everyone will be very glad to help all newcomers.

Sleepy

Hi Sleepy,
Yes her career really took off after Momoco Tao did a nightly link-up with her. She's sort of a hot item these days. I really don't know her that well, just say hi sometimes in the elevator. Working with those anchors is really no big deal, you get used to it and think nothing of it after a while. Anyways I'm too old to care about that stuff, haha.

A former colleague of mine, who now teaches at 銘傳大學, brought his journalism class to TVBS one day for a tour. As they waited for the elevator in the lobby, Patty Hou walked out of one elevator, and Lee Tao walked out of another. My friend said all the students rushed to greet Hou, while no one even noticed Lee Tao walking by. Hmmmm ... a generation gap?

I've heard that Miami is a "dangerous place" to live -- but is Kendall that bad? It seems to be a normal enough neighborhood -- but it's so huge, stretching from south miami all the way into the everglades swamps. What's the best part of Kendall?
